THE KAIONE.
BOARD NOT SATISFIED^ EXPERT TO BE REPORT., Not being at all satisfied •wiCfa.The working of the Kaione, members of the Harbour Board have decided to engage an expert to inspect the dredge and see her under action, so as to endeavour to ascertain, what the trouble is. At the meeting of the Board Tast night, the chairman moved that the Lyttelton Harbour Board be asked to allow its superintendent engineer of the dredge “Canterbury” to visit Wanganui and make an inspection of the dredge, Mr Bignell said that the work of the dredge was not at all satisfactory, and as Mr Morris had assisted in the preparation of thq dredge’s specifications, bo "was keenly interested in her, and would, be able to tell whether the ship was designed as he had suggested.. Captain Holm said that he had prepared a somewhat similar motion, but thought that the makers should be asked to appoint a master to run the dredge for a month, at the Board’s expense. The chairman said he thought his proposal was the better one at the present stage; Captain, Holm’s motion could bo proceeded with later, if it was necessary. He went on. to explain that the Canterbury was similar in type and design to the Kaione, and Mr Morris was the only expert in that class of dredges in the Dominion. Members generally supported the chairman’s proposal anrl suggested that Mr Morris should do more than make an inspection, that he should have charge of the dredge for a week or so, so as to thoroughly test her capabilities. This was agreed to and the motion was passed.
