THE MAORI MELD UP.

TROUBLE WITH TUB FIREMEN, (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, February 6. Owing to trouble with the firemen, the cause of which is at present unexplained, the ferry steamer Maori has not* yet departed for Lyttelton, it is considered there is very little chance of her sailing to-night. CAUSE OP THE BOLD UP. It now transpires that the Maori hold up is due to the firemen’s complaints about the boilers. The men declined to take the ship to sea until repairs were effected. In spite of the certificate of two Government inspectors that the boilers were quite right, the men refused to sail. Consequmrtiy 500 passengers are held up, many walking the Wellington streets. It is said that though the firemen refused to convey the passengers to Lyttelton, they were quite ready to take the ship to Pori Chalmers for repairs.
