SOLDIERS’ CONVALESCENT HOME.

CLOSING OF THE INSTITUTION

With the closing of the Soldier's' Convalescent l/ome at Gouvillc—which Iras been purchased by Mr and Mrs Hope Gibbons, and presented by them to the town for a maternity rest home—another page in the great historical events of the past few' years is turned down. The trustees—Messrs Hope Gibbons (chairman), Mackay, Allan Pobiu.mn, T. B. Williams and A. G. Bigncll—together with the secretary, Mr W. Hedges, left nothing undone to make the Home all that was intended at the outset for the returned men. Their efforts were in every way supported by the Matron and staff, and ff.be men who were at different. times inmates always spoke in praise of the officials, and of the treatment they received. To the V.A.D.’s and all who have assisted in making Hie Home the success it was, the trustees desire to tender their hearty thanks and appreciation for their assistance. From the inauguration of the institution many appeals were made to the public, and it is pleasing to say that, in not one instance, was an appeal made in vain. Gifts of furniture, games, musical instruments, use of motor cars, and much other help were always forthcoming, and , the V.A.D. supplied the staff from beginning to end.

The Home will now pass to another phase of usefulness, in which all will wish it tlio same success. A balancesheet in connection with the Soldiers’ Convalescent Home will he, published in due course, showing what has been done with the proceeds of the Home.
