LOCAL SCHOOLS TO REMAIN CLOSED.
The Wanganui Education Board has received a communication from the Health Department closing- all the schools of the district until further notice, this being a- precautionary measure against the spread of influenza which has appeared in a mild form at other centres. It is not known for how long the closing restriction will continue, but its immediate effect will be that the schools will not re-open after the summer holidays until Monday, the 9th of February,
-The above instructions will also extend to the secondary schools under the Board's jurisdiction, including the Wanganui Technical College, where, in the meantime, the opening >£ate has been extended to February 10th. Presumably the Girls’ College will also follow suit.
LITTLE “FLU” LOCALLY. In conversation with a “Herald” representative, the local Health Inspector said that there were very few eases of influenza locally. The few cases that were reported were of a mild type. The closing of the schools, he said, was onlv a precautionary measure. In some other centres there was a large number of mild cases and as parents and children would be returning in large numbers to their homes preparatory to school resuming, it had been deemed advisable to ke6p the schools closed for another week or two, so as to prevent any possible spread of the disease.
