BOWLING
TARANAKI TOURNAMENT.
The fifteenth annual tournament held under the auspices of the Taranaki Bowling Centro was opened in New Plymouth yesterday in glorious weather. There are five St. John’s teams, two Gouviile, two Wanganui, and one Castlecliff team playing in the tournament. In section A the St. John’s team (Falconer, McCarthy, Holloway, Hodson, sk.) defeated Beal’s team by 24 to 26, but was beaten by Mac Donald (Straf trod) by 25 to 9, and had a bye in the third round
In section B, A Gonvillo team (McKee, Bourne, Bragg, Flower, sk.) won two games and had a bye. They beat Solo (West End) by 22 to 21 and 'King (Stratford) by 27 to 14. A Castlecliil team, comprising A. Firniin, C. Firmin, Wainhouso, and Nixon (sk.) is also in this section. They won their first game against King (Stratford) by 31 to 20, but were beaten by Abbott (Fitzroy) by 22 to 19, and by Morrison (Avon) by 18 to 15.
In section C, a St. John’s team (Murch, McMillan, Parkes, Green, sk.) won their first game against Petty (West End) by 18 to 17, asd their second against Patterson (Patea) by 30 to 24. They had a, bye in the third round.
In section I), a St. John’s team consisting of Abram, Hutchinson, Harkness, MofEatt (sk.) defeated Castle (Eltham) by 16 to 14, and Harris (Stratford) by 30 to 14, having a bye in the third round. A Wanganui team consisting of Anderson, Kcesing, Crawford, and London (sk.) is also playing in this section. They beat Harris (Stratford) by 30 to 17, and McG orrery (Waverley) by 20 to 12, but were beaten by Jury (Fitzroy) by, 20 to 17. In section E, a Gonvillo rink comprising Redwood, Jones, Rice, J. H. Bowater (sk.) lost to McNeill (Fitzroy) by 21 to 13, but defeated McAneny (Wanganui) by 33 to 14, and in the third round scored a win over Sampson (Wad-, tara) by 29 to 20. MoAneny’s Wanganui team —Price, Wall, Foster, li A neny—defeated Humphries (West F* i) by 31 to 19, and also won against '’Roebuck (New Plymouth) by 32 to 10. In section P, a St. John’s earn comprising Stewart, Eowli.ir ; Broadhead, Scrivener (sk.) won against Price (Fitzroy) by 20 to 19, but ' lost to Hollard by 28 to 17 and to Ford by 21 to 20. In section G, Herd, Warden, Gordon, Christie (St. John’s) beat Palmer by 28 to 11, lost to G. Jackson by 26 to 13, and defeated H. Smart by 20 to 19.
