BOWLING.

DOMINION TOURNAMENT.

WANGANUI WINS THE RINKS.

On the Christchurch green (says the Christchurch Sun) the final of the Championship Rink competition was concluded. The weather was very suitable for bowling, and there was a very large number of bowling enthusiasts present. The result was as follows:

RINKS

Wanganui—Brookfield, Anderson, H. F. Tilley, A. P. London 18. Dunedin—F. J. Bishop, W. M. Hogg, T. M. Stewart, E. Harraway 17, On an average, the play was of a very high order indeed, and a large proportion of the shots could with truth be described as brilliant. This is particularly true of the play of the two skips, though the two thirds, H. F. Tilley (Wanganui) and T. M. Stewart (Dunedin) rivalled the performances of London and Harraway. W. M. Hogg, the Dunedin second, commenced badly but improved very much as the contest proceeded. F. J. Bishop, the Dunedin lead, played some very fine shots, though he was not consistent. Anderson, the Wanganui second, did not display tournament form. The same remark applies to Brookfield, the lead, though he occasionally made some good shots. On the first head, London drew well with his first bowl, but Harraway went wide and London scored one. London again scored one on the second head, after a fine struggle with Harraway. London’s first bowl was a good one, but Harraway got closer in. Then London, with a magnificent shot, bumped Harraway’s bowl out of the way. With his next Harraway got a toucher, but failed to get the kitty on to his own back bowls, Harraway scored two on the third head, Stewart having played a good shot. London miscalculated, and knocked another Dunedin bowl up to the kitty. Stewart’s first bowl secured shot on the fourth head, and the position remained unchanged when the skips had finished. The fifth head went well throughout for Wanganui, who scored five, making the totals; Wanganui 7, Dunedin 3. On the sixth head, Brookfield, the Wanganui lead, placed a nice one alongside the .jack, Harraway’s first shot beat Brookfield’s, and the score was: Wanganui 7, Dunedin 4. Good efforts were made by the two seconds, Hogg and Anderson, on the seventh head, Anderson securing shot. Stewart and Harraway both made attempts to shift Anderson’s bowl but without success, and Wanganui added another to its score. On the ninth head the score was; London 8, Harraway 5. There was some good play on the tenth head, Bishop an Stewart drawing good shots for Dunedin, the latter lying shot when the skips went up. London, however, with a great bowl, drew right on to the kitty, and scored one. London 9, Harraway 7. Dunedin was suffering badly on the eleventh head, but Harraway burned it with a good drive. The next head was also bprnt, this time by London, as Dunedin was lying a couple. Hogg and Stewart drew three shots on the next head with good bowls, but, with his first, London got in with second shot. With his second bowl London knocked the jack right into the ditch, Dunedin still lying one. drew a fine shot with his last bowl, adding two to the Dunedin score, and equalising the totals; Wanganui 9, Dunedin 9. On the twelfth head, Stewart drew a good shot. Tilley hit the jack, but it rested against a Dunedin bowl, and London burned the head. Bishop, the Dunedin lead, drew a good shot on the next head, and Harraway heat Tilley for second place. London burned the head. The next head went against Wanganui, and London tried to burn it but without success, and the score stood: Harraway 10, London 9. On the thirteenth head, Hogg, the Dunedin second, drew two good shots, but Tilley got closer to the kitty. Harraway knocked one of his own howls out and London scored two. Harraway burned the next head. On the next head Tilley drew two good ones, and Stewart failed to beat him. Harraway’s shots were thin, and London secured one. Wanganui scored another on the 15th head. Stewart drew shot on the 16th head, and London went inside. Dunedin scored two on the next head, making the score 13-13, with four heads to go. Hogg and Stewart, the Dunedin second and third, drew well on the next head, and Dunedin lay three. _ Harraway went thin, and Wanganui scored one. The next head gave Wanganui four, leaving Harraway five down, with only two heads to go. Harraway and‘Stewart drew three with magnificent bowls, on the 20th head, makin the scores: London 18, Harraway 16, with only one head to go. Bishop, the Dunedin lead, drew two fine shots on the last head, and Stewart the third, added another good one. Tilley, the Wanganui third, broke up the head, and sent the kitty to a point near the ditch. Tilley then drew shot, and Harraway, with a great bowl, drew his last on to in© jack, scoring one and leaving the game to London, with the score;— Wanganui 18 Dunedin 17
