PAPER FAMINE IN CANADA.

Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. OTTAWA, January 21. Newspapers of the western provinces of Canada are undergoing a severe printing paper famine. Newspapers in soma cities have suspended, and in other cities they have joined in issuing single condensed editions. The Canadian Government ordered a large paper mill belongxng to the Port Prancia Company, in Western Ontario, bo divert a large, proportion of its output, which was intended for transhipment to the United States. The Fort Francis Company refused to do this, on the gorund that the Government was not fulfilling ite promise to supply the company’s United State customers from Eastern Canadian milk. The Government thereupon declared an embargo on all Fort Francis printing paper being shipped to the United States. This had the expected result of a 40 per cent, diminution of paper supplies to the Western United State newspapers.
