Pause before you Vote Prohibition. On December 17th the people of the Dominion are to be asked to vote Upon the most momentous question yet placed before the electors. The question is momentous inasmuch as the carriage of No-License—apart from the usual stock arguments—means a serious and uncertain position of employment for thousands of people. Voters are asked to pause and reflect before they, by one stroke of the pencil, cause the instant dislocation of employment in the Dominion. PROHIBITION spells the immediate and wholesale discharge of thousands of employees into an already disturber and chaotic labour market. Thousands of these employees are not fitted for other employment. Let us pause before we throw this army of employees into the labour market, especially in view of tho serious position of the cosfc of living. The fact that our country is m the throes of an endeavour to repatriate some fifty thousand returned soldiers is a further and serious aspect of the question. PROHEBITTON also means a tremendous and immediate loss to the revenues of the National Government a;m j local bodies generally throughout tho Dominion. In spite of all arguments to the contrary, the matter is surely serious at this time of all tim es i n our financial history, when a stable and assured finance is urgently required, LET ITS PAUSE and consider wh a t this dislocation of employment and financial chaos means to a young Country with a small population, that to-day is slowly and with great effor t ©merging from tho financial strain of. a war. It is tho clear duty of th e people to do nothing that can be qdcuiated to accentuate the position, WE ARE A SOBER AND TEMPERATE COUNTRY, and the reform of q o’clock closing should meet and satisfy any reasonable cntic. It } )as been demonstrated that tho 'T3TTCIENCY BOARD” are prejndic e( j against Continuance. We are on© of the most—if not the most—efficic Dominions of the Empire, and our scldiers have proved themselves “So’djers” beyond the dream of the roost 3rifcical. IN YOUR COUNTRY’S BEST INTERESTS, PAUSE. We will not argne for the moment whether this sum of money can or can not be found. We will suppose for argument’s sake that it can be found. But, remember, it will not be found growing 0 n gooseberry bushes. IT MUST COME PROM SOMEONE’S POCKET before it can come into the Government coffers. Who is that SOMEONE to be? Is it you? If you are a FARMER, do you think Eie Minister of Finance will miss YOU, md pass the burden on to someone else? If you are a WORKER, do you think YOU will be missed as regards Customs duties? If you have an income of over £3OO per annum, do you think you will be overlooked? There is such a thing as INCIDENCE 'iff TAWATTON WHO is to pay? Is it YOU—and if jrm ''think yon nxn going fo idnflgfi payment, why do you think so? CITIZEN'S OF NEW ZEALAND, ARE YOU GOING TO PERMIT THIS WANTON CRUELTY? WILL YOU ALLOW THESE SMALL-MINDED TYRANTS TO DICTATE TO YOU WHAT YOU SHALL DRINK? WILL yon stand up for your liberty, are you going to let these men PUT A MUZZLE ON YOU LIKE THEY DO ON DOGS? I VOTE FOR NATIONAL CONTINUANCE. 1 IfArTD r 'sin ct i rrr mm/ruACC jp. rßAimnAi ■ tuiu i uiv vitxMiJu m. v u wnii\UL( .
