(Per United Free* Association.) NAPIER, November 20. A new and novel feature iu the launching of the Mardi Gras queen election transpired last night, when a huge audience assembled in the municipal theatreto listen to a series of ten minute speeches delivered by selected speakers of behalf of ten candidates. The prize was one thousand votes to the speaker delivering the best speech, and the audience voted this amount to the combined brass bands’ candidate.
