THE CHRONICLE ANSWERS.
On Saturday wo asked the Chronicle what it would dp if compelled to choose between Sir Joseph Ward and Mr Holland. Wo requested a, straight answer, and must compliment our contemporary upon being candid enough to admit, despite all its denunciations of Sir Joseph Ward, that there are circumstances in which it would be prepared to support him. It confesses as follows in its issue of this morning: “When it comes to a choice of evils, 'sane men invariably choose the lesser, and in a case such ae that cited by the- ‘Herald’ we should have, perforce of the lamentable circumstances, to give our support to Sir Joseph Ward, ‘in preference’ to giving it to Mr Holland.” £■' Of course, what the Chronicle would d<i in such an emergency is quite irrelevant to tho fact of its* adherence to Masseyiam. But, unfortunately for tho Chronicle, that fact, is just what most concerns the electors of Wanganui just now.
