THE VETERANS’ GATHERING
Wo learn that, although the attendance of Veterans at the luncheon given to delegates attending the annual conference of H.M. Veterans’ Association was only nineteen, it was a most representative gathering. There were present four ex-members of the old British Army, including three of the 18th Regiment Royal Irish (Orakan veterans), and one of the 43rd Regiment (Gate Pah veteran); two ox-offioers (one holder oi the New Zealand Cross) of the New Zealand Militia; five ex-members of the old A.C. Force; one officer and three troopers of the Wanganui Cavalry; one ex-member of the Taranaki Volunteera (M T aireka veteran); and three ex-mem-bers of the Wanganui Militia. With the exception of the M aireka veteran, all the above colonial forces had been on active service undef the late Colonels M’bitmore and McDonnell during the 186S-IE7O native troubles. This little gathering demonstrates the good of Veterans’ Associations, as some of the “o!d boys” until very lately had not met each other in some cases for nearly fifty years. -
