MARRIAGES OF CHIVALRY.
TAKING PITY ON RUSSIANS. LONDON, October 17. An Englishman, who has just arrived from North Russia, describing scenes at tho final withdrawal, says that the British evacuated many_ persons compromised by our occupation. The most pathetic cases were those of unmarried women, of perhaps not untarnished reputation, who greatly dreaded the prrils following the departure of the British. The informant continued: “One of the things to be counted to the eternal honour of our forces was the number of indisputable cases of marriage for motives of purest chivalry by British and Allied soldiers _ with these lonely and unfortunate beings.”
