A STRONG DEMAND. (Per United Press Association.) WHAKATANE, July 29. Mr Sheet, the Commissioner of Lands in Auckland, encountered a strong demand for land by returned soldiers in the Bay of Plenty. Interviewed on returning from Opotifci, he said the Land Board had examined 40 applicants there fo rtho Woodland estate of 25 sections, and. had a further 70 applicants to examine in Auckland to-morrow. About six weeks hence the Edgar Smith es- . tate, in the Rangitaiki Swamp, will be I-ilarly opened for selection, except the Woodland estate of 25 sections, soon after, ten sections at Pongakawa and another Rangataiki block, all for Eofdiers.
