THE VICTORY LOAN.
.£3,000,000 SUBSCRIBED TO DATE. —i* ' ' COMPULSORY CLAUSES STILL OPERATIVE. “During the month of June over half a miUion was received as subscriptions to the Victory War Loan,” stated' the Hon. Arthur Myers, Acting-Minister for Finance, to a N.Z. Times’ representative on Thursday, “bringing the total amount now subscribed to a sum well in excess of three million pounds received by the Treasury since December last. So far as it goes,” said Mr Myers, “this state of affairs is satisfactory. It is necessary, however, again to remind the people of this country that the compulsory clauses under section 16 of the Finance Act, 1918, are still operative, and will be put in force in respect of any firm or individual found not to be contributing adequately to the exchequer. The balance of the Victory Loan not yet subscribed will probably be floated on the market at comparatively short notice, so that it is advisable for those who are liable still to subscribe to this loan under the Act in question to do so without delay, as investments made under the compulsory clauses carry a rate of interest of 3 per cent, only.”
