ERRORS IN DEFAULTERS’ LIST.
TWO YOUTHFUL VOLUNTEERS. Further instances are reported of soldiers with active service records having been posted as military defaulters. Private Thomas Bently Brown, a son of Mr T. Brown, of Hornby, near Christchurch, enlisted when about 17 years of age. Although not actually preventing their son from going to the front, his parents notified the authorities of his age, but he was allowed to leave with his reinforcement. Owing to his youth he was kept in England until he became 20 years of age, and was then sent to France, where ho remained until the close of the war. Private Brown’s eldest brother was killed in action last October. Private W. R. Todd, df Dannevirke, enlisted at 18 years of age, fought through three years of warfare on the Western front, was wounded while despatch-carrying at Messines, and then spent nine months in hospital. Private Todd is a son of Mr John Todd.
