WANGANUI PRESBYTERY.

A meeting of the Wanganui Presbytery was held at Marten yesterday afternoon. A considerable amount of business was transacted. A motion re union of the Methodist, Congregational and Presbyterian Churches was deferred until the next meeting owing to the absence of a number of ministers owing to illness. At the last meeting r of the General Assembly a sub-committee from the Wanganui Presbytery, consisting of the Revs. Doull. and McCaw and Mr J. F. Munro, was appointed to ensure that the union proposal should be placed prominently before sessions and congregations. Owing to the illness of the Rev. McCaw, the Rev. Evans was nominated as a member of tho sub-oom-miltee. Sympathetic reference was made to the illnesi of the Rev. John McCaw, of Mangaweka, and a trfbutc was paid to the excellent work which he had done. A motion of sympathy with him was carried unanimously. The Rev. Morton, of Rewa, has been transferred to Ohakune, where he commences his ministrations on the fourth Sunday in June. Tho Rev Loan will be inducted into the charge of Taihape at 3 p.m. on June 19th. The Rev. J. Bredin, of Foxton, was appointed Moderator for the next six months. . A conference of Presbyterian teachers was held in the morning. There was a good attendance, and lively interest was taken in papers prepared by Mrs Okcy (Palmerston North), Mrs Blair (Wanganui Bast), and Miss GPlunders (Turakina). The Maori Missions Committee met at 9.4-5. Reports were received from the workers (numbering twelve) in the King Country, Urewcra and Hawke’s Bay. These sisters are doing excellent work. They are all trained nurses and their services are much in demand. A motion congratulating the sisters on their work was passed unanimously. One sister was released for deputation work in Hawke’s Bay and Otago, in the interests of the cottage hospital at Nuhaka. Offers from four qualified ladies to act as sisters were accepted. Miss Doull, with Karitane Home training, and also children’s nursing training, was appointed to a position in Hawke’s Kay.
