A DIVORCE CASE.

BIG DAMAGES pLAIMED. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, June 4. A divorce case involving damages amounting to £4OOO is being heard at the Supreme Court. The petitioner is Albert Ernest Orlando Brooks, contractor, of Te Ore Ore, Masterton, the respondent being Cecilia Mary Brooks, and the co-respondent Donald McKenzie, of Hillend, Bideford, Masterton. The grounds of the petition are adultery. The parties were married in 1901 in Taranaki, and there have been four children of the union. Between October, 1915, and December, 1918, it is alleged, respondent had been guilty of misconduct with McKenzie at various places including his farm. The petitioner, as a contractor, was frequently away from home, and the misconduct, said counsel, took place in his absence. Respondent claimed two more chilren than were mentioned in the petition, hut it was contended that two were not children of the petitioner. The respondent had admitted adultery. McKenzie was a wealthy man worth £30,000 or £40,000, and to respondent he gave, now a £lO note, and now a £5 note, gifts of which the respondent used to boast.
