WELLINGTON, June 3
Sir James Allen, replying to the loco, men, agrees to a round-table conference for the discussion of the matter in dispute. He suggests Monday next. Regarding the men's request that the Hon. Mr Myers should preside. Sir Jas. Allen states that Mr Berries, as Minister of Railways, would preside in the ordinary course, as it was his Department. In any case, it would put another Minister in an invidious position to accept the chairmanship of a conference to review the administration of a fellow Minister.
Mr Parr, M.P., telegraphed to Sir James Allen emphatically denying the report that he and Mr Vernon Reed were engaged last week choosing a candidate for Napier. They were merely paying a private visit.
