JAPANESE CONSTITUTION.
REMODELLING ON BRITISH LINES
PROPOSED
Australian and N.Z. Cable Association PARIS', April 7. An interesting feature is the number of Japanese assembled in Paris, which includes thirty-five journalists, besides representatives of commercial and financial interests, all actively studying European./conditions resulting from" the war with a. view to educating Japanese opinion on political, social, and economic pr&filems. An informal meeting of /Japanese outside the peace delegation passed a resolution advocating radical changes in the Japanese constitution, together with a complete, reconstruction of the economic and social systems, so that as a Great Power she would l>e able to stand in line with the Western nations. Japan’s political system is regarded as archaic and too conservative compared witht Western clemocrcie-s. The general view is expressed favouring a re-lmodelling of the constitution on British Imes, with the limitation of monarch} a] powers and he cffaoernciit of bureaucratic influence now controlling lie Government institutions.
