(Special to the “Herald.”) REMARKABLE POEM.

GREAT INTEREST EVINCED IN WELLINGTON, WELLINGTON, April 9, 1919. Interest in to-morrow’s licensing poll has almost reached fever point here, and tire victory or defeat of Prohibition is the main topic of conversation in the city . Gut of the conflict of parties and. jtersonalities there has conic a really lino literary production which has received the highest commendation from all who have seen it. . The poem ia said to have been written by a well-known Wellington resident, and in dignity and force reaches an exceedingly plane, 'five poem is entitled, "Ino Vole,” and reads as follows; Veto out the Drink—vole out the power that steals Dio life of men—that dulls the joyous brain; That smites the lieort, so that ife never feels The first fine love of cciasy again. Vote out the Tiling that dowers wiLh disease, Within the womb, the little life asleep; ; 'l'hat, wakening, shall find not any v case, But, limping into life, lives but t» weep. Vote out fhc fear of children who must run. From the dull fury or the worse embrace ; Who wonder why the happy days are done When they could smile into a father’a face. Vote out the dread of wives who wait alone. For the wild step, the maudlin kiss, the low; Or shrink beside the monster wildly thrown On marriage bed whence love went king ago. Vote out the Shake coiled in the city's heart That glides upon the simple, laughing boy With the first fatal enp, and with tireleas art. Pursues him to the ending of his joy. Vote out the tears of mothers who wait 'A son’s bright stc-p, and eager eyes agleam ; Who find a bully blundering at the gale. And know their hope is but a dying dream. Vote out the crimes that crimson front the cup, Vote out the madness and the slow! despair; The suicide’s dark anguish—giving up Because the wine has made the world all hare. Vote for the coming in of better things, Vote for the fuller life and love and home; Vote for the nation—vote for a land that sings; Vote for the health and happiness to come. *
