Peilding’s water supply is menaced, the long-expected break in the watermain in one of the Mestayer tunnels having occurred at about one and a quarter miles from the reservoir. There is some misapprehension regarding the right of undischarged soldiers to vote in the licensing poll, the suggestion having been made that a special permit is needed. Base Records points out that no other document is necessary except the soldier’s status certificate, viz., a certificate of leave with notice of discharge, or sick leave or in-patient’s or out-patient’s certificate. These show that the soldier has not been discharged and is therefore entitled to exercise a soldier’s vote.

Many wonderful operations have been performed at the Edmonton General Military Hospital, which has been a special surgical centre for wounded soldiers requiring prolonged treatment. A specialty of the hospital work is the treatment of fractured femur by a new method, in which bandages are not required. Skin grafting and blood transfusion have been common operations, and E.A.M.C. orderlies frequently volunteered to crive blood to patients. An experiment is now being tried to place a broken bridge of the human nose with a sparrow’s breastbone. A patient who had a piece of bone protruding into the surface of the braiu became so morose and ill-tempered that even the nursing staff avoided him as mucii as possible. The bone was removed by an operation, and afterwards tie man became the most cheerful patient in the hospital, singing and whistling all day long.
