WELLINGTON HOSPITAL.
APPOINTMENT OF SUPERINTENDENT. (Per United Press Association A WELLINGTON, February 27. At a meeting of the Hospital Board to-day a letter was received from Sir Robert Stout respecting the appointment of a superintendent of the Wellington Hospital. The writer asked if the medical men with the .military forces were to be allowed time fe apply, and if any arrangements had been made for applications to be lodged with the High Commissioner in London. The secretary stated that a reply had been sent to the effect that the Board could not see its way to extend the time for the receipt of applications (March 20), but that cabled applications would be considered. The Hon. C. M. Luke moved that an endeavour should be made to arrive at an arrangement with the DirectorGeneral of Medical Services for the release from military duty of any doctor who might be chosen. Rev. Dr. Elliott seconded. He thought they should give prefemce to men who had served their country. The chairman said that unless a superintendent were obtained quickly a difficulty respecting' the Hospital might arise. When the present superintendent left, the Hospital would be in the care of junior doctors unless Dr. Barclay’s successor was soon available. The Hon. Luke’s motion' was carried. Drs. Fitzgerald and Paterson have also resigned their positions on the Hospital staff, and the Board to-day accepted their resignations with regret.
