WANGANUI’S MILK SUPPLY.
COUNCIL TO INVESTIGATE. “That p special committee consisting of Cre. Gower (chairman), Dustin, Burnett, Liffl ton, Thompson , and the Mayor be set up to inquire and report into the best means-for regulating the supply of milk to the Borough,” was a motion standing in the name of the Mayor, and moved at the meeting of the Council last night. The Mayor said that the question of milk supply was a very important one. The Borough had. taken action some two years ago, but in view of the difficulties which the city of Wellington was then experiencing, they decided to hold over the matter till these difficulties were overcome. The event Lad proved their wisdom, as the first attempts of W 7 elington had resulted in costly failure. It now appeared as though the difficulties were being overcome, and he thought that a workable scheme might be evolved on the lines of Wellington. Cr. Sigley advised delaying the matter until after the new Council was elected. There was no time before the election in which to deal with the matter. He moved an amendment accordingly. Crs. Harkness, Slipper, and Gower supported the amendment. Cr. Burnett considered the Council very negligent in not having moved in this matter before. It was the most important question the Council had to deal with. It was work for the new Council, for it would entail a large amount of work. The Council wanted a clearing house for the whole of the town’s plyThe amendment was lost by 6 to 5 votes, and the motion was carried.
