The Aerial Transport Committee has • .submitted its report, which recommends that the speed ior commercial machines should bo luO miles an hour where they arc competing with last railways, with normal air -tages of 500 miles. i k 1 There should lie improved night-flying facilities, especially for mails. The committee suggests that State encouragement should bo given for private enterprise, and that the Crown should retain jurisdiction over the air and superintend all dominion and adjacent waters, which should exceed the ordinary three-mile limit. THE CROSS-CHANNEL SERVICE. The committee regards the HandlcyPage and de Haviland machines as especially suitable for commercial purposes. The Times, in a leading article, says that the new air service will become the usual method for first-class travel, especially for over-sea journeys. They will bring mails from India to London in two days, and from America iu 36 hours. Mr Handlcy-Pagc is busy fitting up machines for the cross-Channel passenger service, which will be begun soon. The cabins, which are to be electrically heated and lighted, will he as com fortablc as Pullman care, A commencement will be made with smaller machines carrying 20 passengers and moderate luggage for a return fare of £lO. __
