HOSPITAL BOARD

USUAL MEETING. The usual meeting of the Hospital Board was held this morning, Mr B. P. Lethbridge presiding. There were also present Mcsdames Comyns, Siddells, Messrs E. Ju. Fletcher, A. J. Joblin, N. •Svens, m, A. Simpson, W. Ritchie, W. G. Bassett, A. McGregor, T. Hine, and I. U. Battle. DENTAL TREATMENT.—A copy of a resolution from the Palmerston North Hospital Board advocating making dental treatment in schools compulsory and free to all children whose parents were earning unde* £4 per week. HEALTH REPORT.—The Health Inspector, Mr T. Pargeter, reported that during the month ended June 10th sixteen cases of infectious disease, fourteen of which were diphtheria, were reported from Wanganui Borough; three, including two diphtheria, from Gonville Town Board; three diphtheria from Castlecliff; two diphtheria from Waitotara County; three, including two diphtheria, from Wanganui County. In all the district there were 20 cases of infectious diseases, of which 24 were diphtheria. Mr Pargeter remarked that it was satisfactory to note that there was a great improvement in these returns for the month. This district is better off than the surrounding districts, which have a smaller population. EXECUTIVE REPORT.—’The Executive Committee recommended that the Board appoint a steward at the Hospital, and that a committee be set up to go into the mitter of duties, etc., and report to the Board. The committee recommended that the sub-committee already set up again go into the question re gas for Jubilee Home, and ,if necessary, wait upon the Council. The committee eonld not recommend the Board to remove any other trees from the plantation, except a few around the nurses’ home. P.AETIHI HOSPITAL.—An application was received from a committee aj> printed at a recent public meeting at Ilaetihi. regarding erection of hospital at Rnetihi. applying for the Board to take the necessary steps to obtain the consent for the erection. The £SOO had already been subscribed, and probably more would be forthcoming. The Board to set the matter in motion as soon as the money came to hand. HON. STAFF.—Applications of local medical men for appointment as hon. surgeons was received. Mr Brookfield was appointed hon. dentist. The matter of appointment of opticians was referred to the executive. MELTING HOUR.—It was decided in future to meet at 11 a.m. on the day of meeting, Finance Committee to meet half an hour earlier. REPORTS. —The Medical Superintendent reported that at the beginning of May 149 patients were in the institution, 140 were admitted during May, 143 were discharged, and 140 remained in the institution at the end of the month. The report of the Taihape Hospital showed the number of patients left in hospital at last return was 12, the number admitted 13, the number discharged 17, the number remaining 8. RESIGNATIONS.— The resignations of the following nurses were accepted with regret:—Nurses Livingstone, McIntosh, Stouppe. Bropby.
