Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. LONDON. April 24. A mysterious suggestion was made in the House of Commons that the Germans, in the most recent fighting, were nsing a new explosive or chemical. Mr Gilbert sought a statement regarding the nature of wounds, and Mr MacPhereon (Secretary for War) said that in consequence of Mr Gilbert’s information he had instituted urgent inquiries, which were not yet completed. Mr Balfour said Britain did not intend to appoint an ambassador to Russia.

Major Hope, in the House of Commons, announced that an agreement had been ratified with Turkey providing for the repatriation of all British invalid prisoners, irrespective of rant. A thousand will be repatriated immediately. German official.—Von der Goltz’s troops took the rail junction at Syvinge Ruehimaeki, and established communications with the Finnish army northward of Lahti.
