BALLOT APPEALS.
THIS AFTERNOON’S BUSINESS
The following appeals were dealt with at this afternoon s sitting of the First Wellington Military Service Board. In regard to the case of Basil James Hair, tne chairman onnounoed that the Board had considered the matter and had decided to dismiss the appeal and recommend that appellant should b:given permission to join the Flying Corps. Further evidence was taken in the appeal of Norman Frederick Moore, sheep farmer, Nukumaru. Moore said he was looking after his brother's farm and his own, amounting to about 700F acres. His brother was at present tere ing at the front. His other brother Ms managing a farm of 30(J0 acres for his father at Pahiatua. There were abou* 8000 sheep and 500 head of cattle ot> the two farms at Nukumaru. He had made no effort to get anyone to take charge, but had made inquiries from different people without definite results. He did not want to shirk the front for one moment, but he thought that if he got a man who was as good as he, and would work like he would, then that man, in his opinion, was just as well able to go to the front. The case was adjourned till next sittings Cyril Milton Staite, farm hand, Okoia, Wanganui, appealed because he was engaged in an essential industry, namely, grass-seeding up the Wanganui River, After hearing evidence the Board dismissed the appeal, and granted leave till* June 5.
