• The Victorian Totalisatov Bill provides that only 2J per cent of the 10 per cent deduction is to go to the Government, which is reasonable, whereas the 7 per cent taken out of the pool % the New South Wales Government is exactly the reverse. The Bill, though introduced into the Victorian Legislative Assembly some days ago. is said to have no chance of being seriously discussed, let alone passed this session. Therefore its shadow will not spoil the bookmakers’ enjoyment of the Melbourne Cup fixture. Australian sportsmen have formed a good opinion of the three-year-old Good Day, who is a member of M. Hobbs’ team at Randwick. When ho won at Tattersall’s meeting early last month. Good Day ran a trifle green, and it is nredicted that he will improve on that form. Mail news from Sydney includes some interesting references to whose withdrawal from some of ' bis spring engagements was announced hy cable. He did some fair gallops at Randwick, but he was causing his trainer, M. Hobbs, considerable trouble. He favoured the withdrawal of the horse f»om the Metropolitan Handicap some time ago. but Mr Luttrell wished the son of Kilhroney to run if possible. However. be was so lame after a gallop about a fortnight ago that his scratching was announced. It is the ligament of the near foreleg that is now troubling him, and though he is to be persevered with a little longer, M. Hobbs is not hopeful.
