EGG APPEAL. The response of the -children to the appeal for aid from the New Zealand branch of the Red Cross Society resulted in 88 dozen fresh eggs being delivered at the Patriotic Red Cross Shop. The eggs were sold at market values, real- ‘ , ising £6 4s lOd. The children’s, work ' was most commendable. ' r • PATRIOTIC RED CROSS SHOP. “GOXVILLE DAY” ON FRIDAY FEXT. The Patriotic Red Cress Shop (next ■ Bank of N.S.W.) will be open on Friday next, sth iust.. when Mesdames WebbJones and Rice, assisted by other Gonville ladies, will be in charge. There will be special atractions which will no doubt find favour, including home-made cooking of every description, meat, produce, flowers, and fancy goods. ' A specialty that is sure to result in good business will be the surprise bags'at one shilling each, which will contain good prizes. Among the prizes will be a ticket for a pair of boots (either ■woman’s or man’s). These ha,ve been kindly donated by Mr N. P. Svenson, Another prize, given by Mr M. L. Lampe, will be half ia< dozen cabinet photos, finished in his best style. Other prizes of interest to ladies especially will be strings of hand-made beads in all colours. The prizes will be on exhi- ' bition in the shop window from Wednesday next, so that the public can gather an idea of some of the things they can get by the investment of a shilling'in a surprise bag. There will also be competitions for a block of soap, an iced cake, and other goods. Business will commence at 10 a.m.
Owing to a change of rooms, wqrk will not be given out at' the Navy League’s rooms over Messrs. Fairburn and Silk’s on Wednesday , afternoon. Notice as to new rooms will appear later. The Navy League has sent a. fourth consignment of comforts for the sailors to Wellington, consisting of 53 shirts, 2 dozen underpants, 13 paira, socks, .14 balaclavas, 8 pairs mittens, and on© waistcoat. "OUR DAY.” ‘V In connection'with "Our Day,” Mrs F. J. Walker has arranged a euchre party and dance, to be held in the Wanganui East Town Hall on Friday evening next. Dancing will commence at 10.30. . ■ - PATRIOTIC RED CROSS SHOP.
