INGESTRE STREET BAPTIST CHURCH.

WELCOME SOCIAL TO REV, S. JENKIN. v " A very lappy social gathering was held at the Baptist School-room, Ingeetro Street, on Saturday night, when the members and friends of the church met to welcome tlieir new pastor and. his wife, the Bey, Stanley >nd Mr Jenkin. The Hon. Gilbert Carson occupied the chair. Mr J. H. Harper, who has in-the church since- its incepvice, voiced the welcome of the church,, Mr Matthews' Spoke on behalf of the Smithfield Baptist Church, and Mr It, B Horeley, on behalf of the Wanganui East Church. An apology was received from Rev Mr Sims, who had been appointed by the Ministers' 'Association- to represent them. Mr G. McCaitl. president cf the No-licsnee League,-welcomed Mv Jenkin, who is "known as an-earnest worker in this cause,.' on behalf of the temperance workers of the town. Mr Jenkin, in reply, thanked Jhe speakers and all present for the extreme cordiality of their welcome, and in a few earnest words spoke of the great work that was to be theirs as pastor and people, and the great; ideal that should ever be before them. During the evening Mrs Jenkin was presented with a bouquet and an accompanying letter of welcome from the Sunday School teachers and echolars. Solos were rendered by Mrs Matthews and Mies Ruby Horsley,. and the choir contributed two anthems to the programme. Supper and friendly conversation brought to a close a very pleaeant evening. . Mr Jenkin commenced his pulpit ministry yesterday (Sunday), when his eloquent and helpful discourses were list-' ened to by large congreg-ations both morning and evening. A Bible Class tea was held in the afternoon, in order that Mr and Mrs Jenkins might become acquainted with the young people ~ of j their church as soon ae possible.
