RUA PERJURY CHARGES.

HAMILTON', April 18. During the hearing of the perjurycharges against natives at the Supreme Court to-day, an aged Maori; named Paul Kingi, whom one of the witnesses for the Crown alleged fired the first shot at Rua's pa on April 2, 1916, made a statement, of denial. His left arm is now useless as a result of a shot fired by the police. Under crossexamination, he admitted having mgnv erl a letter to the Governor, stating k that if an attempt was made to arrest J»J?ua, a shot would be fired. Witness C said'lie signed it because he wanted to COinmpmcato with his friend the Governor, as he might have given him some 'mod advice. Witness said he was at the battle of Orakau, but did not partipate in it, and he denied fighting for ' Te Kooti.
