IMPORTANT POSITIONS CAPTURED. ENEMY COUNTER-ATTACKS SMASHED WITH BLOODY LOSSES. • OVER 14,000 PRISONERS TAKEN. (High, Commissioner's Cable.) Received April 19, 12.30 p.m. LONDON, April IS. A French official report states:—From Soissons to Auberive westsrard a brilliant action has resulted in the capture of Chavonne and Chivy villages. Northward, all the ground has been carried as far as the outskirts of Braye-en-Laonnais. In the sector of Ville-au-Bois several fortified works have been captured, also a whole wood eastward. In the Champagne three enemy counter-attacks in the region of Mont Cornillet were stopped dead by our fire with bloody losses to the enemy, who are withdrawing behind the position of his heavy and field artillery. Notwithstanding this we captured 12 cannon, including three heavy pieces, chiefly on the Champagne front. The total number of unwounded prisoners captured since Tuesday is liow over 1'4,000.
