EDUCATION DEPARTMENT'S DECISION. Recently the Wanganui Education Board protested against children being allowed to attend race meetings. Subsequently a communication was forwarded to the Department oil tue matter, and last night the following reply was received from the Assistant Director of Education (Mr J. ChaugWey): I" have to acknowledge tiie receipt of your Memorandum of March 14, embodying a resolution passed oy the Committee of the Feilding District High School, on the subject of school children at race meetings, and to say that tins is a matter that cannot be finally dealth with by the Education Department. It will, however, be considered carefully in relation to legislative wssibilities sinee the prohibition asked for toucn on_percntal. public, and other rights. I might add that Parliament is averse to the introduction o fany controversial legislation at present."
