GERMAN ATTACK REPULSED 3000 PRISONERS TAKEN AND 1600 DEAD COUNTED. (Aug. and N.Z. Cable Assn. and Renter.) LONDON, April 15. Sir Douglas Haig reports; —As the result of fighting north-west of St. Quentin, we gained ground eastward and northward of Gricourt. We also progressed m the neighbourhood of Havrincourt Wood. We progressed eastward of Lievin, approaching the outskirts of Lens. Later particulars show that the German losses in the attack on the Bapaume-Cambrai road were heavier than at first reported. The attack was pressed with great determination under our heavy fire. Three thousand prisoners were taken and 1500 dead counted Defore our positions. There has been severe air fighting. We destroyed and downed 15 German machines. Ten of ours arc missing.
