THE MIXERS’ STRKE.

(Per United Press Association.) WESTPORT, April 16. The Acting-Premier and the Minister of Mines addressed the miners at Millerton, Stockton and Denniston to-day, putting, it is undei’stood, the position plainly before them. The press was not admitted. The Ministers returned co Westport tiit§ evening, and leave on a visit to Greymouth in the morning, ft is intended to take on Thursday a secret ballot of miners in the Duller district on the question of resuming work. TRAIN SERVICES MAY BE FURTHER REDUCED. WELLINGTON, April 16. Regarding the reduced train services, commencing on May 6th, it is now stated that unless the coalminers resume much greater reductions will bo necessary, of which possibly a week’s notice will be given. Goods trains were not to be reduced, but if a further cut is made this will be done. Efforts will be made to carry essentials. Other goods may sometimes be declined. There will be no delay regarding the timetable for such change, because all the arrangements were made at Christmas, when a strike was thought probable. STRIKE AT WAIPA. HUNTLEY MINERS MAY FOLLOW SUIT. AUCKLAND, April 16. Information was received in Auckland to-night that the coalminers employed at Waipa collieree, near Ngaruawania, went out on strike this morning. There are between 150 and 200 men in the employ of the company. The men employed by the Taupiri Mines and by the Pukemiro Collieries held an important meeting to-night, the result of which has not yet transpired. It is expected, however, that the men working in this group of mines at Hnntly may go out on strike tomorrow. The Taupiri Company employes over 350 Iren, and Pukemiro from 180 to 200. So far as can be ascertained, the men concerned have no* given any reason for their action. The only object that can be assigned to them is their opposition to conscription. It is hoped that further trouble may be averted by an early settlement of the strike of the West Coast miners by the Acting-Prim® Minister and Mr Mac Donald. STEAMER SERVICE STOPPED. WELLINGTON, April 16. Owing to coal troubles the Mapourika has been withdrawn from the West Coast run.
