LOCAL AND GENERAL.

A Sydney cable states that it is raining heavily for the races to-day. To-morrow Major J. L. Sleeman, 1.G.5., Director of Military Training, will assume the duties of Commandant at the Wanganui College, which lor four days is to be converted into a "barracks," so tnat the boys attending may be put through a course of military instruction. The programme of training will consist of instructional exercises and manoeuvres, particular importance being attached to individual training and a high standard of discipline. Similar "barracks" will be held at the Waitaki Boys' High School from April 22nd till April 27th.
