The late Mrs Jame« A. Campbell, who died at her residence Street, on Monday, and was buried to-day, had been a resident of the Dominion for nearly half a century, about thirty yearn of which had been spent in Wauganui. Sincere .sympathy will be felt for Mr Campbell in hie sad bereavement. Dr Kenneth Mackenzie, son of Sir Thomas Mackenzie, and Dr C. J. Itossiter, of Auckland, have volunteered for sen-ice at the front, in response to an appeal for more military doctors by Sur-geon-General P. S. F. lienderson. They have applied to the Hospital Board to be relieved of duty at the hospital. Dr Scaimel has been appointed to the charge of the Otaki Sanatorium, and suitable rooms are to be erected for his residence. Dr Scannel is a returned soldier, having' served for over two years at the front. Dr Buthwaite will still act as medical officer for the hospital. Captain E. S. Harston, of Napier, who left with the Main Body and sa-iv service in Gallipoli and France, returns shortly to New Zealand. The licv. G. W. Der.t has resigned his charge of All Saints' Church. He will bo leaving Eltham about the beginning of July, having effected an exchange with the Vicar of Brooklyn. At the annual meeting of the Nelson Centre of the Public Service Association last week, a presentation of a travelling rug was made to Mr J. Fitz-Gcrald, the retiring chairman. Mr A. H. Hounseil, the chairman-elect, in making the presentation, spoke in warm appreciation of Mr Fitz-Gerald's services during the past three years, his remarks being supplemented by Mr J. II Allen in equally warm terms." The presentation was suitabhr acknowledged by the recipient. Mr Peter Grant, Inspector of Machinery, who has been transferred from Invercargill to Nelson, was entertained by a large gathering of citizens prior to his departure, and presented with a purse of sovereigns. In proposing the. hralth of the guest of the evening, Mr .Tamos Macalister dwelt upon Mr Grant's good qualifies and professional qualifications for the position. Mr Grant suitably acknowledged the honour which had been shown him.
