There was line weather for the opening day of the Egmont R-C. meeting and the attendance was a record) Speculation was very brisk, the sum of £23,010 being put through the machine as against £20,030 on the first day last year. The newly-appointed secretary, Mr V. B. Stratton, ably assisted by Mr Fred Spriggens and other willing workers, must be complimented on the excellent management of the sport, which was of a high-class order, several splendid contests and most exciting finishes being witnessed. Since the acceptances appeared Tete-a-tete and Kgpt had been heavily backed for "re double—Flying and Cup—and Mr T. H Lowry’s pair duly landed the goods. Much interest was centred in the Egmont. Stakes, a weight-for-age event, in which Bisogne, winner of the Royal Stakes, met Bimetcr find Estland (Mr T. H. Lowry’s two-year-old Finland colt). Tree Lucerne and Cease Fire were also starters- • It was a fine race, and resulted in a win for Bimcter by a very narrow' margin from Estland, with Bisogne third. The latter was very slow to get going, and at the end of the first furlong wa.s a long wav back, but travelled very fast over the last two furlongs, making up a lot of ground. A quarter of a mile from home Master Moufoa and Analogue were together in the lead, but Egypt ran up to the pair at the entrance to ihe straight. Analogue made a game effort, but the favourite carried too many guns and got home oy half a length, Master Moutoa four lengths away. Paraoa was fourth. Time. 2.33 3-s—a record for the race. Grey Guard tried to win all the way, hat Xormanby caught aim at the distance and going on won by Time, 1.53 4-5.
