ELECTORAL REFORM AT HOME.
SUFFRAGE FOR WOMEN
PROBABLE. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, January 31. The official report of the speakers’ conference on Electoral Reform generally confirms the forecast cabled on the 17th instant. It is expected that the Conference will recommend that the suffrage be granted to any woman who is on the local Government Register, or the wire of any man who is on the roll, subject to the age limit, which is suggested as from 30 to 35 years. It is proposed that women graduates shall be entitled to the franchise. Hie redistribution proposals suggest no change iu the numbers of members. No county or borough of under 50,000, except the Cit of London, shall retain separate representation. The registers will be revised hqlf-yearly. The Unversities of London, Durham, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds’ Liverpool, Sheffield, Bristol and Wales are grouped in a single constitu-. ency, retaining three members The four Scottish Universities are grouped to return three members. Any election where there are more than two candidates for a single member constituency shall be held under the system of voting known as the alternative vote. The report does not deal with Ireland. A suffragette, demanding an interview, sat for four hours on the step of Mr Lloyd George’s house in Downing Street, until Mr Lloyd Georg© sent a letter declining to receive a deputation until di aling with the franchise generally.
