While considerable difficulty has been experienced by Auckland firms in securing certain lines of goods, leading retailers in the boot trade interviewed considered that the “rubber shoes and sandals stage was still some considerable distance ioff, so far as Aucklanders were concerned (says an Auckland paper). “We have foreseen for a long time,” said one, “that still greater difficulties wer-j ahead in the matter of im-' ported goods. Ever since the'outbreak of the war there has been difficulty in securing certain lines of goods, and even at the present time goods we ordered over a year ago have not come to hand. Children’s footwear, all makes in glace kid, men’s heavy boots, and tan boots and shoes have been all hard to obtain.” Another authority, in reviewing the situation, remarked: “The qpestion of leather supplies in England at present lias evidently reached a very acute stage, and this, no doubt, accounts for the Imperial authorities having decided to requisition all New Zealand hides. Necessary arrangements will be made, no doubt, whereby the*-New-Zea-land tanners will receive a sufficient quantity of hides for military and local requirements. Military orders are urgent, and must receive first attention.” TP you need anything in the way of Special ; Porms or Cards Baled and Printed; ring up ’phone 43,' Herald Bookbinding Department, and our representative will call.
