GRAND THEATRE. „ “THE DUPE.” To-night will be the last opportunity for picture lovers to see the fine programme now showing at’the Grand. The star picture is a thrilling drama of modern society by Hector Turnbull, who was >the author of “The Cheat.” The supporting films are all exceptionally good, and patrons are advised to go early and see the full programme, as nothing is repeated. To-morrow will be presented the Lasky Feature Company’s successful production, “The Love Mask,” featuring Miss Gleo Ridgely ,and Wallace Reid. “The Broken Coin,” No. 11, will also be screened. Seats may be reserved at Allden’s. BIG PATRIOTIC CONCERT. The Opera House was well filled last night, when a patriotic concert organised by the Wanganui Caledonian Society and the military forces of the Wellingon district was held. The concert proved most enjoyable, practically every item being encored, and great credit is due to the organisers and the performers for the distinct success achieved. Songs were rendered by Mrs Ivo Symes, Mr Claude Suisted, Captain L. Craig. Lieut. Packman, and Mr Frank Wilkie. A. reel was danced by Misses M- McDermit, Pearlie Quarterman, Iris Leeson, and Master John McMillan, the Highland Fling by Master John F. McMillan, and the Sheauntribas by Miss Emma McDermit, a character sketch was given by Miss Doris Symes, a concertina solo by Mr Walter Simple,y, a bagpipe solo by Pipe-Major William Hogg, a sword dancp by Miss Emma McDermit, a cornet duet was given by Mr Shepley and Lieut. Buckley, and a cornet solo by Lieut. Buckley- O’Hara’s orchestra played the overtures, and the accompanists ivere Mrs Claude Suisted and Misses Ethel Bignell and Ruby Curran. The stage management in the hands of Messrs W. Herd and Geo. Swan left nothing to be desired, while the joint secretaries (Staff Sergt.Major Bell and Mr, Lachlan McMillan) are to be congratulated on the excel.lence of the arrangements generally. During the interval the trophies won at the Wellington District Rifle Meeting were presented to the successful competitors by the Mayoress (Mrs C. E. Maekay). Before calling upon Mrs Mackay t6 present the prizes, Lieut.Colonel McDonald made a . lew remarks, in the course of which he paid a warm tribute to the excellent work done by those responsible for the management of the meeting, and thanked the Wanganui people for the hospitality extended to all visitors. He congratulated Lieut. Caiman on winning the championship, and said it wag very pleasing to find that a returned soldier had carried off ,tho honours.
