Sir Douglas Haig icports that the fcoamy attempted raids northward of Arrje and north-east of Ploegakeert Wood, which were unsuccessful. A French communique states that On the right of the Meuse there is most violent artillery activity, also in the sectors of Douaumont, Caurieres Wood, and in the Vosges in the region of CEapelotte. LONDON, January 23. 1 The War Cabinet has instructed Lord Derby to ■■all up all tads attaining the age of 18, and to train them and employ them for Home defence till they reached the age of 19, excepting those apprenticed or skilled in the engineering trade, and fully engaged in war work, at the shipyards, or in munition factoriesBRITISH WOMEN’S PART. (Auatralian and N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, January 23. Mr C. Addison, Minister of Munitions, in a speech at the Mansion House, stated that women had done a splendid part in the war. Half a million were engaged in munitions production, and their numbers were ircreasing at the rate of 34,660 monthly. He paid a warm tribute to the nork of the Young Women’s Christian Association. Lord Sydenham said we could not over-appreciate the women’s war-time work and their readiness to risk their lives.
