A London cable announces the death of Mrs Adeline Billingcon, the act-' regs. She was born in 1825- ■ Mr P. W. Hewlett, who has been clerk ' of the court at Palmerston for many years, has been promoted to Invercargill, Unostenatious and efficient, Mr Hewlett has made many friends in the district . who will be pleased to hear of his preferment. Information has been received to th* effect that Sergeant W; E. S. Morgan (son of Captain E. R. Morgan) has been promoted to Sergeant-Major, and is bn his way from London to Egypt to join his old squadron. ' Enquiry at "the Wellington hospital, yesterday elicited that the condition of Sergeant Ritchie, of thp Quartermaster’s Stores, Trentham, who received serious injuries through falling from a window' in the Dominion Private Hotel on Sunday, has improved considerably. The Christchurch Star says;— Mrs Hoben (Chrysea), who has been associated with this paper for three years as Lady Editor, has resigned, tb accept an important appointment: yyith: the New Zealand Associated Press, on a coinmis- ' siqn abroad, and she will leave at an early date for -Sydney, en roujte for Japan. • ■
