LATE LOCALS.
The B Company of tlie National Reserve will parade at the Victoiia Avenue School at 7.30 to-morrow evening. Members unable to attend on Saturday night next will be afforded an opportunity to record their votes for the election of officers.
A tnicowsful test of a machine-gun, fitted up at the Government Workshops, Petone, was made the other day. T lie weapon is said to be well up to military requirements. It is slated that the discs which were imported weie so accurately fitted that the use of the file was not found necessary.
A pamphlet will shortly tie issued by tbe Minister for Defence, giving useful information to these who desire to enlist. It will lie a. further '.-ten in Hie recruiting campaign. The Minister says it is also intended to utilise the services of some of the returned wounded soldiers in this direction.
The Institute Journal, ihe organ of the Institute of Journalists, Loudon, gives a list of the Pressmen who have joined the colours. The number i.s cou.sideiably over a thousand—ll2l to be exact. Of these London provides almost a quarter, Scotland alsnit 130, Wale-sol). Ireland 311 odd, and Man and the Channel Islands a dozen. Our Overseas Empire gives 30, and the balance, some 770, come from the counties of England. A score have “gone to join the men of Agincourt." Manv have been wounded, “gassed,” or frostbitten. Not a few recovering from their hurt have gone back to the firing line, Since the above was published, additional newspaper men have joined the forces in New Zealand and Australia.
