Apparently the films which prove the most popular at the present day are the adaptations of well-known novels which, having demonstrated their rapacity as good sellers, are snapped up by the big film manufacturers and turned to mosprofitable account Ln picturedom. In this way the public is havrtig all the wellknown novels visualised in moving pic, tures, and every week ushers in some new picturised version of the quick-selling novel. The latest filmic adaptation, that of “The Spoilers,” Rex Beach's great Alaskan romance, a.s shown at His Majesty's Theatre last night, can he easily ranked as one' of the most successful and satisfying films -seen here for some time. The Solis Company, the producers, have caught the atmosphere of the story, and the crowded audience present at His Majesty's last night were transported to Alaska to Jive again the wild .surging life of the goldfields as it was awav baek in the ’eighties. Miss Kathlyn Williams, as Cherry Malotte, the fascinating adventuress, is the central figure in the story, and her interpretation is a particularly fine one. The other leading parts are capably interpreted by Messrs Thomas Santschi (as McNamara!. William Farnura (as Gleuister), and Frank Clark (as Drxtrv'i. Fuller’s augmented orchestra provided special music moot acceptably. “The Spoilers," which occupies the whole of the programme, will be repeated to-night, also to-morrow evening. “SNOW-WHITE >NT> THE SEVEN DWARFS.” It is confidently honed that the public will lend their hearty support to the effort which the children are making to raise funds for patriotic purposes. The beautiful setting of this fairv tale by George F. Root, the well-known composer will he given in the Onera House on Friday. 29th October, and at a matinee performance on the following day. Before the curtain rises on the operetta, the choir of 300 singers will render a number of patriotic songs and choruses.
