MAXWELL NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) A concert and social was held in the Maxwelltown Hall on Thursday evening in aid of Dr. Barnardo’s Homes, and proved a great success. The principal part of the programme was given by the Sunday school children, assisted by several from Wanganui, and some local talent. TV items included songs by Messrs P. Benson, Pritchard, Clapham. Bpv. H. Evans, and Miss Moon; pianoforte solos by Misses Dierks and M. Alexander, and Mr Pritchard; address, Dr. Dunn ; recitations, Miss Alice McDonald and Mr Clauham; and chorus and songs bv the children. The programme concluded with the National Anthem.- after which supper was handed round, and then the floor was quickly cleared for dancing, which was kept up until the small hours of the morning, The total takings at the door (including sale of flowers by the girls) were nearly £9. Mrs W. Derbyshire is to he congratulated on the success of the entertainment. Mr W. Morrison capably fill- • ed the position of chairman. Arrangements are well in hhnd for a send-off to our local boys who have enlisted and go into camp in November, namely Troopers S. Pairman, G. Goache, H. Bruntlett, W. Bunting, and F. Anderson. ;
