The, day’s sport promises to We very enjoyable, as big fields and close and interesting racing should be the order. As the day is to b© observed as a genera},-holiday there is sure to be a. big attendiapco of racing enthusiasts from all parts of the coast, and in this connection intending , visitors from Wanganui are reminded that special trains leave Wanganui at 5.20 and 8.50 a.m; qn Monday, returning at 5.30 and 5.55'. ~ / , The, Brewetv Handiqap, with which proceedings will open, •will: ;be contested by a big; field, including such good ones as Rewi Potb, Tre£ Lwrornfe,*' Astor, Denise' Orme, King Chiara, Crawford, and others, and whatever wins should pay a good price. Marcavis and Collector are the two most fancied for the Maiden, but several others will also have supporters, and it should be another fine betting race, the result appearing to be very open. Though St. Gate is top weignt in the Hprdles, he is_ bound to have plenty of friends,- but Ngopoto and Epworth will also be well backed. It is saicl that Cokeley may prove a surprise packet. Zion. Tiora, Bivouac. Black Ada, Coropett, Interlude, Vestalis and Tirana are some very speedy customers over short courses, and the sprint events will therefore be full of interest. These events are often won by an outsider, and it will be no surprise to see some big dividends paid on Mqflday. The Cup should be a fine race, and the winner will take a lot of picking from the ten left in, of which lot it may be that Imarose will be made favourite, though two or three of the others wlil be well backed, including Welcome Nugget (if he starts) and Tangiwai. , The running in the -earlier events, will give backers an opportunity of judging the form of some of those engaged in the Flying Handicap, and Mbumahaki Stakes, and this may assist them in getting on to the winners.: The Wanganui Garrison Band has been engaged to supply the music, which m;y be depended umm to give great pleasure to the club’s patrons. Dustin’s Ltd. will have charge of the luncheon and afternoon tea arrangements, and Mr T. H. Nixon will be ‘‘c.t home” in the publican’s booth, so that in both these departments satisfaction is guaranteed to all who patronise them. , The whole of the proceeds of the meeting are to go to the patriotic funds, and therefore it is to bo hoped that the weather will be fine, in which case a record success will bo scored.
