LATE LOCALS.

The Hon. J. Hanan, Minister of Education, had proposed visiting Wanganui next week, but owing to domestic reasons the visit has been postponed fof a week. Meesrs T- B. Williams (chairman), G. Spriggens, and H. V. Duigan, of the Wanganui Patriotic Committee, with Mr W. Lints (Carnival organiser), addressed a meeting at Waverley last night, asking the people cf that district to co-operate m the forthcoming Wanganui Carnival. The committee was notified to-day tint the Waverley people would take part in the function. Speaking at the send-off last night to some men who are leaving for Trentham on Monday, Ur W. A. Veitch, M.P., referring to the National Register which hj to be taken next Tuesday, considered that tho women should be organised as well at the men. They had proved that they c:uld assist a great deal in the defence of their country. It was not fair to ask them to stand back, and many women were anxious to come forward to carry on the business of the country. There should be a much more complete organisation to juake spfe that New Zealand produces as tnuch raw material for food -and clothing (or soldiers at the front as she did last wear.
