C-.lonel G. Cosgrove, Chief .Scout Commhnoner, estimates the number cf Boy Scouts, in New Zealand"to be 20,000. Foster of Foster’s. Four of his staff have already enlisted, for service, and owing to the shortage .of 1 men he has secured the services of a lady as hall porter. The local hotel is the first in New Zealand to have a,-lady hall porter. Mr C.“ James, who is leaving the EaStown for, Trentham, was the recipient yesterday of a presentation of a wristlet watch frm his mates of the boiler shop, staff.' A similar compliment, was paid to Mr J. C. Watson, who was presented with a safety razor from the loco, staff. Tho Earles family, of Wanganui East, have received a letter card through the International Committee of the Bed Cross- Prisoners of War Agency in Switzerland, stating that Corporal Francis John Earles, who was captured by the ■Turks, negr Hill 971 on August 10th, is now interned in the Maltepc Hospital at Constantinople, wounded in the left shoulder.
