DEATH OF CATHERINE STANLEY.

THE INQUEST. (Per United Press Association.) DUNEDIN. October 20. The inguest regarding the death in the hospital on October 6 of Catherine Stanley, a married woman, aged 34, was resumed to-day. Dr. Roberts, who made the post mortem, said, replying to the chief detective, that there was clear evidence of an unskilful attempt to perform an illegal operation. This, primarily, was the cause of death. It was stated that if the doctor had suspected the trouble was due to illegal treatment, the woman’s bfe might have been saved, although the deceased’s condition was serious owing to a form of bloodpoisoning. The inquest is proceeding.
